This one-of-a-kind Full Circle Mushroom Hammer came out of a pretty damn cool return to the craft.
The artist behind this piece first blew glass more than 16 years ago and recently found his way back behind the torch. After getting some time on the flame again, he decided that for his birthday he wanted to really put himself through the paces by working a bunch of different techniques into one piece to see what had come back, what still needed some work, and where he was at in the process of relearning the craft.
The result feels appropriately full circle.
More than a decade and a half after first learning to work glass, he found himself back at the torch combining old skills with a fresh perspective—and we think he hit this initial effort out of the park.
The Full Circle Mushroom Hammer starts with a long, drawn-out stem decorated with inside-out cane work and silver fume. As the hammer gets used, that silver fume will begin coloring in, adding more depth and character to the glass over time.
At the end of the stem is a coil-potted mouthpiece that mirrors the cane work incorporated into the top and bottom of the can, helping tie the different sections of the piece together. Sandwiched between the cane patterns on the can is an inside-out reversal, adding another layer of pattern and technique to an already detail-packed hammer.
A trail of magnifying marbles runs across the piece, enlarging and distorting the work underneath as you turn it in your hand. Capping everything off is a large cane-worked mushroom marble, giving the hammer a killer focal point while pulling the cane work found throughout the piece into one final detail.
And this thing isn’t just a showcase of technique, it is built to smoke. The glass is solid and thick, the long hammer shape feels great in the hand, and the generous thumb-sized bowl is ready to be packed.
There is something pretty fitting about an artist coming back to a craft after more than 16 years and creating a piece that pulls together so many of the techniques he once learned. The Full Circle Mushroom Hammer captures exactly that moment: old skills returning, new ones developing, and an artist finding his way around the torch all over again.

Return Policy:
Tako Glass has a 30 day return policy. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately, we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
