Padawan Pipes are where some of our in-house apprentices put in the repetitions that turn practice into real glassblowing skill. Every glassblower has to start somewhere, and this second round of Padawan Pipes shows what a little more time at the torch can do.
These apprentice-made spoon pipes come from another full round of shaping, fuming, and repetition, and the jump in quality is noticeable. The forms are getting cleaner, the proportions are getting tighter, and each piece reflects a maker becoming more comfortable with the process while still retaining the individuality that makes apprentice glass so much fun.
There is still a little consistency in the Force. Every Padawan Pipe is made in the classic spoon style and internally , giving the glass metallic color that can continue developing as the pipe colors in with use. They’re also built with generous bowls and large carbs for straightforward everyday function.
Because these are still part of the learning process, every pipe has its own variations in shaping, proportions, fume patterns, bowl construction, and finishing. Some may also have a larger-than-ideal bowl hole, so depending on the individual pipe and how finely you grind your flower, a glass screen can be useful.
That’s part of what makes these pipes worth supporting. You’re getting a completely unique piece of handmade glass, watching a developing glassblower level up through repetition, and helping provide the bench time it takes to learn the trade.
Best of all, these are priced way below what we would normally ask for handmade glass. Take advantage of the low price while it lasts, choose your Padawan, and support the next generation of glassblowers while they keep getting better.
Please note: These pipes are intentionally sold as apprentice-made glass. Variations in shape, symmetry, fuming, bowl construction, and other details are expected and are part of the character of each individual piece. These are sold as is and are not available for return.
