Every glassblower starts somewhere, and the Padawan Pipes series gives you a chance to follow that journey as our in-house apprentices build their skills at the torch.
The Advanced Training Series represents the next step in that process. These spoon pipes come from a more refined stage of the learning curve, where the fundamentals are becoming second nature and our Padawans can start putting more attention into cleaner shaping, better proportions, tighter details, and a little more personality.
Like the original Padawan Pipes, each one is handmade and internally fumed with silver, but these pieces show a noticeable step forward in overall execution. Bowl sizes, bowl holes, carbs, shaping, and function have all become more dialed in as those hours behind the torch start paying off.
And because every pipe is individually handmade during the learning process, each Padawan Pipe is completely one of a kind. The shaping, fume patterns, placement of details, and personality of the piece belong to that individual pipe. Once it’s gone, there isn’t another one exactly like it waiting in the wings.
They’re still Padawans, but the Force is definitely getting stronger.
This Padawan features a fume floral design worked into the front of the head, turning the silver fume itself into the main decorative feature of the pipe.
The floral pattern creates a natural focal point on the front of the piece while keeping the overall design rooted in the classic internally fumed spoon style. The result has a little more visual structure and intention than a straight fume pattern without pushing the piece too far away from the simplicity that makes a good spoon such an easy everyday smoker.
It’s also another sign of the progression happening behind the Padawan Pipes. Cleaner fundamentals give our apprentices the breathing room to start experimenting with pattern, placement, and design instead of focusing entirely on getting the basic form together.
With improved shaping, a nicely sized bowl, properly proportioned bowl hole and carb, and dependable function, this one-of-a-kind spoon shows what happens when those early lessons start clicking into place.
Grab yourself a unique piece of handmade glass, score a great deal, and support an apprentice as they continue refining their craft.
