Showcasing Our Glass Products
Here at Tako Glass, we make sure to take a bunch of pics of all of our glass products. Our listings include pictures from multiple angles, and in different lighting conditions, to help give you a good idea of what each piece will look like in person. Buying glass pipes online has a bunch of benefits, but the biggest drawback by far is not being able to pick up, hold, and inspect a piece before you purchase. That is why we have also strived to include video with our all our pipes, bongs, and accessories as well.
The Power of Video
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, which if true, means a video is worth a million. As you might have noticed, we recently celebrated the launch of our new website. This was a major undertaking for us here at Tako Glass, and for the dev team putting everything together for us. One of the primary reasons for moving to a more open platform was video hosting for our glass products. Our previous website had a limit of 5000 videos. That sounds like a lot, but we have nearly 10,000 active product listings, and almost every one is intended to have a video to enhance the online shopping experience.
Challenges in Transition
Growing and improving always includes some pain points though. It turns out there isn’t a streamlined way to migrate the videos over to our new platform, which now has thousands of glass products that are missing videos, impacting the online shopping experience for all of you. In order to preserve as many videos as possible, we are facing the task of manually migrating each video and updating each individual product. No small task, but one we think will ultimately be worth doing.
The Bad News
Some videos are in fact lost. Because of the previous 5000 video limit, we were forced to delete a few hundred videos per week to make room for the new videos and glass products we were adding daily. We also lost all of the videos that we had uploaded to our YouTube channel, including our podcast episodes (Don’t worry, we have backups!) when YouTube decided to delete the entire channel without notice. It is possible that some of you might have stumbled into broken YouTube links on some glass products as well, which we have also endeavored to clean up. These were big losses for us, and for our customers. We know how important the videos were to many of you, and how much help they can be in making purchasing decisions when shopping online.
The Good News
The good news is, that we still have access to thousands of videos of glass products from our old site, and have begun the task of manually moving them to our new host, and are updating the links on each product as we go. Please bear with us, as we salvage and update as many videos as we can! Plus, all new product listings are going live with a video attached, so if you’re shopping the New Arrivals, you can expect to find videos on all our glass pipes and bongs, as usual.
We’re Bringing Video Back!
We’re dedicating ourselves to task of restoring as many videos as possible, and reshooting video where we must, but we ask that everyone please be patient with us, as this is a big task that will ultimately improve the online shopping experience! This was always a priority for us, but we’ve also received feedback directly from you guys in regards to our missing videos. We absolutely appreciate that direct communication!
