Finding the Right E-Rig Takes a Little Research
The Focus V CARTA vs Puffco Peak debate continues on. These brands have become two of the most recognizable e-rig platforms on the market. They solve the same basic problem—consistent concentrate heating without a torch—but they approach ownership and use a little differently. The current Puffco Peak is intentionally simple, while the Peak Pro pushes further into premium features and customization. The Focus V CARTA SPORT lands somewhere between those two when it comes to overall features, while also offering an a removable airpath. It manages to do this while also coming in just below the entry level Peak’s pricing.
All three are capable devices, so the more useful question isn’t which one is universally better. It’s which one fits the way you actually plan to use, maintain, and customize an e-rig.

Performance and Everyday Use
The standard Puffco Peak is the easiest of the three to understand. It uses Puffco’s 3D Chamber, four heat settings, real-time temperature control, and simple on-device operation. Temperature-controlled vaporizer systems have also been shown in laboratory testing to maintain heating temperatures more consistently than voltage-controlled systems, which helps explain why precise temperature regulation has become such an important feature in modern vaporizers. There is no app to set up and no need to build custom profiles before using it, which is part of the appeal for anyone who wants an e-rig that is straightforward right out of the box.
The Peak Pro 3DXL is aimed at users who want more control and more capacity. It adds Puffco’s larger 3DXL chamber, app-based heat profiles, wireless charging, and deeper control over the session. The CARTA SPORT also offers app control, but at a price much closer to the standard Peak. It uses Focus V’s Intelli-Core system and supports multiple compatible atomizer options, giving users more room to adjust the setup without stepping up to a much more expensive base.
You can dig very deeply into the differences between individual chamber generations, but most people don’t need to. In everyday use, the Focus V CARTA vs Puffco Peak comparison largely comes down to control versus simplicity, while the Peak Pro sits above both as Puffco’s premium setup.

Cleaning Matters More Than It Looks on the Spec Sheet

This is one area where the CARTA SPORT has a clear design advantage. Any concentrate rig will collect reclaim over time. Glass can be soaked, chambers can be cleaned or replaced, but the vapor path inside the base is usually the less convenient part of the job.
Focus V addressed that with CARTA CONNECT, a removable silicone airpath between the atomizer and glass. It can be taken out of the base, cleaned separately, dried, and put back in. If it eventually needs replacing, the airpath itself is replaceable as well. The Peak and Peak Pro can both be maintained properly, but their airpaths remain part of the electronic base while you clean them.
That difference may not sound as exciting as a larger chamber or more temperature settings, but it matters once you’ve owned an e-rig for a while. Reclaim is going to happen, and being able to pull the vapor path out of the electronics makes that part of ownership considerably easier. For anyone who uses an e-rig heavily or already knows they dislike cleaning around electronics, the CARTA’s removable airpath deserves serious consideration.
Peak and CARTA Both Have Strong Accessory Ecosystems
When it comes down to choosing between Focus V CARTA vs Puffco Peak, the best option depends on which features matter most to you.
Accessory compatibility is another important part of the Focus V CARTA vs Puffco Peak comparison, and this is one area where the two platforms are more alike than different. Current Puffco Peak and Peak Pro models share glass fitment, so a large portion of the Peak glass ecosystem can move between the two bases. Focus V has done much the same with CARTA, keeping glass from earlier CARTA generations useful through newer models, including CARTA SPORT.
Focus V has also gone one step further publicly by confirming that existing CARTA glass will remain compatible with the upcoming CARTA 3. Puffco hasn’t made the same broad promise about future Peak hardware, although its track record gives owners good reason to expect that compatibility will continue to matter. For someone spending real money on a custom top, that continuity is important. Good glass can outlast the electronics underneath it.

Glass Compatibility Isn’t the Same as Full Accessory Compatibility

This is where things can get confusing. A glass top may fit multiple devices even when their chambers, caps, chargers, or other accessories do not.
For example, Peak and Peak Pro share glass, but they do not share every chamber. Puffco’s 3DXL is a Peak Pro chamber, not an upgrade for the standard Peak, and some caps are chamber-specific as well. Focus V also has compatibility rules for individual components, even though there is quite a bit of crossover between recent CARTA hardware.
If you’re buying an accessory, it is worth checking the exact part instead of assuming everything in the same ecosystem fits everything else. And despite the broad compatibility within each brand, Puffco Peak glass and Focus V CARTA glass are not directly interchangeable with each other.
Going Beyond Standard E-Rig Tops
Both ecosystems can also be adapted to work with glass outside the usual Peak or CARTA top format, but they approach the idea differently. Puffco’s Peak Pro Link is a first-party accessory that moves the Peak Pro’s 3D or 3DXL Chamber onto a conventional glass rig using 10mm or 14mm connections. A cable carries power from the Peak Pro base to the relocated chamber, effectively turning the Peak Pro into an electronically controlled heating system for traditional glass.
CARTA owners have options that accomplish a similar goal, although with a different vapor path. The MJ Arsenal Bridge replaces the normal CARTA top with a glass dome and hose assembly that routes vapor from the CARTA into a conventional 10mm or 14mm glass rig. The chamber itself stays on the CARTA base, so the vapor travels through the Bridge before entering the external piece. That makes the Bridge a practical way to use CARTA with traditional glass, but it isn’t quite the same kind of direct chamber-to-rig integration offered by the Peak Pro Link.
Beyond rig adapters, both platforms have accumulated plenty of accessories that change how they’re used day to day. Puffco offers locking Travel Glass, alternate joystick caps, upgraded chambers, cases, and heated loading tools, while Focus V offers alternate bubble and swivel caps, multiple Intelli-Core atomizers, artist glass, charging and travel accessories, and its own heated loading tools. There isn’t a clear overall winner here: both Peak and CARTA have grown well beyond the accessories included in the box, but the Peak Pro Link is a particularly interesting example of how far Puffco has extended the platform beyond its proprietary glass format.

Why Change the Glass on a Peak or Carta?
Replacement glass is sometimes treated as decoration, but on an e-rig the glass is part of the functional system. The chamber handles the heating, while the glass determines what happens to the vapor after it leaves the chamber.
A different top can change cooling, airflow, diffusion, draw resistance, water volume, and portability. It can even turn a water-filtered setup into a dry rig. That makes glass one of the easiest ways to change how a Peak or CARTA behaves without replacing the electronics underneath it.

A dry top does away with water completely, so there is nothing to fill, empty, or spill. That makes dry tops useful for travel and compact setups, while the more direct vapor path gives them a different feel from traditional water-filtered glass. Some users prefer that directness, while others prefer the extra cooling of a water top.

Most stock e-rig glass uses a relatively simple water chamber and percolator. Changing the perc, airflow, chamber size, or number of diffusion points can change the way the rig pulls and how aggressively the vapor is cooled. You don’t need an elaborate piece to notice a difference; even a relatively simple aftermarket percolator can noticeably change the character of the rig.

Recycler glass changes the setup more dramatically. A recycler moves water through additional pathways while you draw instead of simply bubbling through one chamber, while an incycler uses the same general principle with more of the recycling structure built into the body of the piece.
The result is more water movement and a different vapor path than a standard bubbler. On a Peak or CARTA, swapping to a recycler can make the same electronic base feel like a very different rig, both in the way it draws and in the way it cools the vapor.

There are practical reasons to replace stock glass too. Some aftermarket tops use thicker borosilicate or more substantial construction, while others are smaller and easier to travel with. Complex recyclers can have more exposed arms and welds, so aftermarket glass isn’t automatically tougher simply because it’s aftermarket.
What matters is having the choice. You may want thicker glass, a compact dry top, more diffusion, recycler function, or a one-of-a-kind piece from a glass artist. Because both Peak and CARTA have maintained broad glass compatibility within their own ecosystems, investing in a good top can make more sense than it first appears. The electronics may eventually be replaced, while the glass may not have to be.
Puffco Peak vs. Focus V Carta – Which One Should You Buy?
The standard Puffco Peak makes the most sense if you want a straightforward e-rig with simple controls and access to a huge glass ecosystem. You don’t need an app, there isn’t much of a learning curve, and it gives you a relatively direct entry point into the Peak platform.
The Focus V CARTA is especially compelling if you want more control without jumping into Peak Pro pricing. Its app features, battery performance, compatible atomizer options, and removable airpath make it a very practical device to own long term. That removable vapor path is particularly worth considering if cleaning and reclaim buildup are already familiar concerns.
The Puffco Peak Pro is the obvious choice for someone who already knows they want Puffco’s higher-end experience. The 3DXL chamber, deeper customization, wireless charging, and other extras are meaningful upgrades, but you pay considerably more for them.

There isn’t much risk of ending up in a dead-end ecosystem with any of these choices. Both Puffco and Focus V have built mature platforms with extensive glass and accessory support, and both give you plenty of room to change the setup after the initial purchase.
The glass is worth thinking about before you assume the stock configuration is the final version of the rig. A dry top, different perc, or recycler can change the way the device behaves without replacing the electronics at all. That’s one of the reasons e-rigs are particularly interesting from our perspective at Tako Glass: the electronics provide repeatable heating, but the glass still has a major say in how the finished rig actually functions.
Both of these companies manufacturer a wide range of e-rigs and electronic devices. We’ll take a closer look at other Puffco and Focus V products, individual accessories, and specific glass styles in future guides!
Questions About Focus V CARTA and Puffco Peak E-Rigs
Is the CARTA SPORT easier to clean than the Puffco Peak?
The CARTA SPORT has a significant advantage when it comes to cleaning the vapor path. Its CARTA CONNECT silicone airpath can be completely removed from the electronic base for cleaning or replacement. The Puffco Peak and Peak Pro can also be thoroughly maintained, but their internal airpaths remain part of the base while they are cleaned. For users who regularly deal with reclaim buildup, the removable CARTA airpath can make long-term maintenance noticeably easier.
Can Puffco Peak glass fit a Focus V CARTA?
No. Puffco Peak and Focus V CARTA glass use different mounting systems and are not directly interchangeable. There is broad glass compatibility within each platform—current Peak and Peak Pro models can share many tops, while CARTA glass works across multiple CARTA generations—but a top designed for one brand should not be expected to fit the other.
Is upgrading the glass on a CARTA or Puffco Peak worth it?
It can be, especially if you want to change more than the appearance of the rig. Different tops can alter airflow, cooling, water volume, diffusion, draw resistance, and portability. Dry tops remove water entirely, different percolators can change filtration and airflow, and recyclers create a more complex circulating water path. Aftermarket glass can also provide thicker construction, more compact designs, or artist-made glass that gives the rig a completely different look.
Does the Puffco Peak Pro Link work with the standard Peak?
No. The Puffco Peak Pro Link is designed specifically for the Peak Pro platform. It connects a Peak Pro 3D or 3DXL Chamber to a traditional glass rig using included 10mm and 14mm adapters. The standard Puffco Peak does not support the Peak Pro Link, although third-party glass adapters can provide other ways to connect a standard Peak to conventional glass.
Can a Focus V CARTA be connected to a regular glass dab rig?
Yes. Accessories such as the MJ Arsenal Bridge for CARTA replace the normal glass top with a hose-based adapter system that can connect the CARTA to conventional glass. The Bridge includes both 10mm and 14mm connections and is designed for Focus V CARTA devices. It works differently from Puffco’s Peak Pro Link, but both approaches allow an e-rig to be used with glass outside its normal proprietary top ecosystem.
Does Puffco Peak Pro Travel Glass fit the regular Puffco Peak?
Yes. Puffco’s Peak Pro Travel Glass is compatible with both the Peak Pro and the current standard Peak. Its locking design allows water to remain inside the glass during transportation when the mouthpiece is closed, making it a useful example of an accessory that crosses between the two current Peak platforms.
Can the CARTA SPORT use the Intelli-Core MAX atomizer?
Yes. Focus V lists the Intelli-Core MAX as compatible with CARTA SPORT as well as CARTA 2 and AERIS. The MAX is taller than the standard Intelli-Core and provides additional chamber capacity. This gives CARTA SPORT owners an upgrade path for the heating system without replacing the electronic base.
Will current CARTA glass fit the upcoming CARTA 3?
Focus V says yes. The company has officially confirmed that existing CARTA glass attachments will remain compatible with CARTA 3. Final CARTA 3 specifications and pricing have not yet been announced as of September 2026, but glass compatibility is one of the details Focus V has already confirmed.
